Have you ever taken the time to read the Optimist Creed?
(Read all the way to the end for your Free Copy)
I’ve been thinking a lot over the last few weeks about attitude and positive thinking and being optimistic even in the face of trying situations.
Optimism is defined as:
“A mental attitude or world view that interprets situations and events as being best (optimized), meaning that in some way for factors that may not be fully comprehended, the present moment is in an optimum state. The concept is typically extended to include the attitude of hope for future conditions unfolding as optimal as well.”
It’s obvious we’re all going to have set backs, but the question is how are we going to respond to them?
I got laid off a couple weeks ago. It’s a temporary thing but it still interrupts your life.
The thing that surprised me was that I barely missed a beat. Instead of getting up and going to work. I got up and made phone calls to get some side work going. I passed out business cards to generate some business locally. Through it all I just had a sense of faith, that when one door closes another one opens.
Holding on to constructive thoughts like that rather than giving in to destructive ones certainly works to your benefit. I got called back to work for at least a few weeks. I got some side work going now and life is good again.
It kind of seems like all of the sudden I’m not sweatin’ the small stuff. I know that “all things are working together for good…” How’d that Happen?
My first encounter with the Optimist Creed.
I’m going to give some credit to my Mother on this one because she was always giving me little things to read that were encouraging and uplifting. The Optimist Creed was just one of those gems. She was a woman ahead of her time.
I had another friend in High School that actually wrote out the Optimist Creed in the back of my year book. I bet she doesn’t even realize that those words have stuck with me throughout my life. Thank You Sally.
I’m thinking we should all read more. We should give more value to the wisdom that surrounds us. We should be grateful for all the goodness that surrounds us. Especially with some of the world conditions the way they are.
Because the Optimist Creed had such a powerful impact on my life I want to share it with you today.
